Zodiak (1974-75) comes from a period when Stockausen – a guru and a prophet of contemporary classical music for many – already sympathized with philosophy of the Far East for many years. In his improvised, intuitive pieces he tended to reach a mystical connection between the sender and the receiver. Every single zodiac sign has its own tempo and melody, in tones lined up by chromatic order, for example: Leo – the composer’s sign – is situated on the A, Virgo – on Ais, and so on.
A younger by twenty years vast collection Zwölftonspiel by Hauer, a musical mathematician, whose principle was to follow enigmatic scents instead of creating series – has an ascetic lineament which is typical for the whole of his activity. Since the times of a dispute over twelve-tone method he liked to sign his name modestly as "J.M.H.". Despite many followings he is still the only expert and a master in twelve-tone music.
Igor Stravinsky, inspired by the myth of Apollo, created a ballet in which the god of arts grants power insignia to muses, among whom he values Terpsichore, a muse with a lyre, the most. The script, inspired by Lully’s times, is based on classical pas de deux ballet scheme. In connection with this the music is characterized by unique simplicity and clear message, which brings to mind classical dance’s sever discipline.
